Storyboard

I am going to follow the Chico Community Ballet through their performance of Keeping Dance Alive. I hope to show the process of putting together a ballet.

- The first step is practice. There are several different groups each practicing individually with their choreographer. I will shoot some pictures of those practices.

- When the group all begins to practice together, they will have a spacing rehearsal. I will go to that and begin taking pictures on the stage. I hope to get most of my interviews around this time.

- After spacing rehearsal, Act 1 and Act 2 rehearse on different nights. I will take some pictures there.

- The dress rehearsal will be good. Since I cannot use a flash during the actual performance, I think a lot of my photos will come from the dress rehearsal.

- During the actual performances, I hope I can take pictures of the audience filling up Laxson Auditorium. My really great photos on these nights are going to come from the people getting ready for the performance. The dressing room and makeup room will hopefully get me some great photos.

- After the final performance, I am going to attend the after party to show how all of the hard work paid off.

Good photo

Robert Capa, Magnum Photos
I like the expression and the angle of this photo. I think this photo is really good in black and white.

Bad photo

This photo is bad. The guy is posed. There is a lot of contrast and there's a huge white area on the right. It can't stand alone and I would have no idea what the story was about by looking at the photo.

LA Times

This photo is great because it shows the whole scene while also having a focus. The guy is not centered, he has a lot of expression, and you can still tell what's going on behind him. The green on his clothing and the yellow of the flames add great color to an otherwise dark photo.

THAT'S AMORE
Bob and Trish Howard share a cozy moment. Like Bob says, "There was no decision-making really--Trish and I had to be married."

I think this photo is pretty bad. I definitely cannot stand alone. I would have no idea what the story was about just based off of the picture. There is half a body on the left and half a dog on the right. There is a shadow on that guy's face. There is a lot of dead space on the top and bottom. It's not tight enough either.

This photo is great because of the lighting. Many people could have taken the same photo and had it turn out bad. This one is good because is really has a mood. The expression makes you feel sad and the empty space really works in this photo to help create that mood. The picture is from National Geographic and goes with a story about AIDS in Uganda. The photographer is Karen Kasmauski.

I chose this as my bad photo. You can only see people's backs and the sign is not that interesting. The same picture taken from the other side would have been much stronger. The photo was in the CN&R and the photographer was Desiree Cousineau.

My organization

I am going to follow Theater Arts Department in their production of...
"Anton in Show Business"

A comedy by Jane Martin
Directed by Gail Holbrook, 898-5130
March 7, 8, 9 at 7:30 p.m.; March 10 at 2:00 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.; March 11 at 2:00 p.m.
Wismer Theatre

This “backstage” comedy, by award-winning contemporary playwright Jane Martin, skewers the traditions and folklore of life behind the curtain in today’s American theatre and the pitfalls of staging the classics in community theatre—in Texas this time. Nothing is left unscathed including cross-gender casting, offstage romance, unsavory corporate sponsors, the local newspaper critic, and a myriad of eccentric directors and actors. Like Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters, our three leading ladies (the star struck ingĂ©nue, the jaded character actress, and the porn diva), are pursuing the true purpose of life—but their path is an hilarious one. If you believe man cannot live by bread alone… and prefer a little salsa with yours… and love the theatre… this madcap comedy is for you!
